Soft vs. Stiff stock -
The most wonderful stock I've ever felt was a "butter" deck I got from Holland. Was extremely soft - softer than any deck I've ever handled and I fell in love with it. I knew that I wanted my decks to be much softer than normal decks. Some people say they want "STIFF"/Thicker stocks - which is something that some people like to think means it's "better" than other decks.... like a standard, if it's stiffer/thicker, it's better - but that's for dicks, not decks. http://handlordz.com/images/smilies/20png.png In the old days softer stock usually meant less spring and durability and could turn to mush very quickly while thicker stocks required breaking in but would in general last longer. With the new high quality softer stocks that’s no longer true. My stock is not the normal 325 stock that most people use on their custom cards. Mine is different, and with a high performance finish also not typical of the most custom decks. Other decks are far too slippery for my tastes, and since I hate powder, I wanted a deck that comes out of the box broken in and great for manipulation without using fanning powder.

So why on earth would anyone want a stiff/thick stock that you have to break it in for days before you can actually use it for anything. Makes no sense at all. It makes manipulation twice as hard and is a pain in the ass and hard on the hands. Heaven forbid that you mess up your "broken in" deck right before a show or get a last minute call and you don't have one warmed up. Sure you can do 2 handed cuts with a stiff deck, but big XCM style moves such as slow over the head springs and so on will never happen. Some of those right out of the box decks are so slippery you'll never get an arm spread completed. You also can't do some moves such as the 180 flip over spring with a stiff deck - only works with a very soft deck.

Going from a stiff deck to a soft deck will be very strange and not feel right. But stick with one for long enough the opposite will happen. Going to a stiff deck will be weird and not good. For me, not just for my hand/tendons injury, but for manipulation soft stock is the way to go. And so far everyone that's been working with my Blades agrees! You can take them right out of the box and spring like you would with a broken in deck. They handle really nice and because of the high performance coating, they'll stay nice for a long time. I'm very happy with the Blades as there isn't any other deck on the market that I'm aware of that has the same stock and finish as them making them very unique. The reviews on the net and around the world have been amazing - check YouTube for several great videos from various people.

Blades are and will always be about visuals and performance - for both manipulation/poker. Manipulation = soft stock and high performance finish. Poker = readable faces with accents to enhance card recognition. The inner pips of all court cards have highlights so you can more quickly recognize the suit. Faces have to be instantly recognized which is why I stay with traditional face cards. Any time you alter the face cards you make it harder to play card games, and make it less likely that your audience will pass it as a "normal" deck. Plus most of the time the “artistic” faces just end up looking cheesy. All Blades decks will be made with recognizable standard faces for poker, also works for magic, and especially XCM. Sure I'll alter them slightly such as the red/black/white colors only, but not so much that they will not look normal to a normal person you're performing for. Black decks (faces) are the absolute worst for trying to play card games. Black court card faces and white pips really make playing cards nearly impossible. It's too easy to get completely disoriented with all the colors or lack of. With my new Black Edition, I'll take on black faces with a traditional feel with emphasis on card/suit recognition, but leave the feel of a black deck. People EXPECT altered jokers, and allow you freedom with an Ace of Spaces... but anything with the number or court cards can detract from quick suit/card recognition and won't be easily accepted. So that's what Blades are all about and why I made them the way I did and why Blades are different from most other decks.
